Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education member Richard Mole represented the 5th district. A graduate of the local public school system, Mole received a bachelor's degree from Savannah State College and a master's in administration from Georgia Southern University. He was a teacher for 16 years and a principal for 18 years, mostly at Beach High School. In the early 1980s, he was president of the Chatham County Association of Principals. He was also executive director of secondary schools for two years until his retirement. Mole, a Prince Hall Mason, was a member of the NAACP and the Liberty City Community Association. He was a Korean War veteran, treasurer and elder of Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. At one point, he also served on the local zoning board of appeals.
